DECHA is the musical solo project of multidisciplinary artist Viktoria Wehrmeister, based in Düsseldorf. She started in the 1990s, being part of Klaus Dinger’s band project la! NEU? and in 2014 she founded TORESCH, together with Detlef Weinrich and Jan Wagner (released on Offen Music). She was born in Mexico City, but only lived there for seven years. In 2010 her childhood language Spanish came back in her performances, complementing forgotten parts according to feeling, and mingling it with invented language. Her poetic lyrics often contain self-reflection about life as a woman, a mother, a teacher, an artist, while she modulates her voice playfully in shades from light to dark, transgressing a clear gendered identity.
